Great Journeys of New Zealand offer some of the most spectacular scenery in New Zealand. With three train services that span the country, each with its own unique identity, there is no better way to experience the best New Zealand has to offer.

Visitors will see so much more of New Zealand if they travel by train. They can sit back in comfort, and let the train take them through lush farmland and forests, over historic feats of railway engineering, past active volcanoes and alpine tussock land, across wild gorges and broad rivers, beside the dramatic seascapes and soaring mountains.

Great Journeys of New Zealand are New Zealand’s only long distance passenger train service providers, operating two unique services in the South Island; The Coastal Pacific, a stunning journey between steep mountains and the rugged Pacific Coastline between Christchurch & Picton, and the world famous TranzAlpine which journeys coast to coast from Christchurch to Greymouth and over the majestic Southern Alps. Scenic Plus dining experience is offered bringing a regionally inspired menu to the table with a dedicated open air carriage alongside the Scenic Plus carriage.
We’re offering more than train trips. We’re creating great journeys and connected experiences with short break packages in various regions and 6 – 17 day guided tours. It provides an easy way to travel allowing the Travel Centre to take care of the details while visitors be immersed with off the beaten track experiences.

All services feature state of the art carriages as good as any of the scenic railways in the world, automated GPS triggered commentary is available at seat making sure no highlights are missed. Each train also features a licenced café car and open air viewing carriage which is the ideal spot for photographing passing scenery.
