This year marks a decade of unforgettable experiences, nature-filled escapes, and luxurious adventures at Cliffside, the premiere glamping and event destination on the Karioitahi Coast. Founded by local sisters Serena and Jasmine Shine, along with their father Gavin, Cliffside Conferences, Retreats & Events has grown from one single innovative glamping tent into an iconic destination for not only couple’s glam camping experiences, but also corporate events, bespoke weddings and retreats.
The idea for Cliffside (formerly Glam Camping At Castaways) took root from the Shine family’s love for the outdoors. Inspired by Gavin’s creativity and the family’s passion for unique experiences, the first luxury glamping pod was crafted long before "glamping" became a household term. Over the past ten years, Cliffside has become renowned for offering guests the opportunity to connect with nature while enjoying the comforts of high-end accommodations.
“We’ve always believed in the magic of the outdoors,” says Serena Shine. “Glamping allows people to immerse themselves in the beauty and serenity of nature without compromising on comfort. For us, it’s all about creating memorable experiences and offering as many people as possible to experience glam camping.”

“Cliffside is more than just a venue—it’s an experience,” adds Jasmine Shine. “From the sea air to the clifftop sites, every element is designed to create lasting memories. We’ve always wanted to share what makes this place so special.”

The Shine sisters credit their upbringing in Waiuku for their deep connection to nature. Growing up surrounded by animals and the outdoors on their family farm, Serena and Jasmine cultivated a passion for adventure and sustainability that is woven into every aspect of Cliffside. Their off-grid approach ensures that guests can enjoy the tranquillity of nature while embracing modern eco-friendly comforts.

As they celebrate this milestone, Serena and Jasmine are looking ahead to exciting new possibilities.
“We’re always exploring ways to grow Cliffside without losing the magic of what makes it special,” says Jasmine. “Our dream is to expand our offerings while staying true to our mission: helping people unwind, connect, and thrive in nature.”
