MEETINGS 2025 sees us building on this and looking at opportunities in partnership with our suppliers and stakeholders to further minimise the impact we have on the environment and do good for the local community.
Food Waste
With catering for several hundred people each day at MEETINGS, there is the potential for high levels of food waste. MEETINGS caterers often work closely with organisations to donate suitable leftover food. All other food waste is collected by organisations who utilise it to create biogas, stock feed and fertilizer.
Carbon Off-setting Air Travel
We know that MEETINGS wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for the presence of our 200+ Hosted Buyers who come from far and wide across New Zealand and Australia. We also know that getting here comes at a cost to the environment and therefore BEIA will be off setting the carbon emissions from all Hosted Buyer flights from Australia and around New Zealand.
Reducing or Eliminating Printed Material
Our ongoing commitment to reduce printed material will put greater emphasis on the MEETINGS app and digital solutions to ensure you have everything at your fingertips, without the waste! Whilst we can't eradicate all printed material this year, part of our Toitū Envirocare Certification requires us to measure the amount of printed material created and distributed during MEETINGS and we will be working hard to reduce this further still, next year.
No Satchels
Whilst the name badge pouches utilised at MEETINGS are fully biodegradable, this year we will be making them optional for all Exhibitors, Day Buyers and guests.
Charitable Donations
Following the success of 2024's initiative where MEETINGS donated over $5,000 to three local organisations, we will once again be giving Hosted Buyers the opportunity to select from three Auckland-based charitable or community focused organisations for MEETINGS to donate to on their behalf.
With Your Help
Whilst we are passionate about reducing the environmental impact of MEETINGS, we can't do it alone! We therefore ask all Exhibitors and Buyers to take whatever steps you can - big or small - to help reduce your MEETINGS footprint. Here are a few ideas:
How Hosted Buyers can help: ◾ Bring your reusable coffee cup and water bottle. ◾ Bring a re-usable bag for the duration of the show. ◾ Utilise the MEETINGS App ◾ Recycle your name badges at the points provided. ◾ Hosted Buyers can choose one of three charities for BEIA to donate to, as your gift. ◾ Walk to the venue if staying locally. | How Exhibitors can help: ◾ Offset carbon emissions from travel and freight to Auckland if you can. ◾ Use sustainable packaging when shipping your items to the venue, including reusable covers for pallets rather than Glad Wrap. ◾ Reduce waste from one-time items by creating generic signage that can be re-used or utilise digital signage options. ◾ Bring your reusable coffee cup and water bottle. ◾ Consider sustainable / eco-friendly / biodegradable giveaway items at your stand. ◾ Arrange for plants used on your stands to be donated or replanted. |
