Overview
In the heart of New Zealand’s geothermal region lies Polynesian Spa, a world-renowned, natural mineral bathing and wellness spa retreat, nestled on the tranquil shores of Lake Rotorua. Polynesian Spa has repeatedly been recognised as a World Top10 spa and has been welcoming guests from New Zealand and around the world for over 52 years. The site dates back to the 1800s when the first bathing houses were established so patrons could “come take the healing waters” with many of these historic elements still seen on site.
Channelling the geothermal marvels in its backyard, waters from two natural springs are fed into 28 mineral pools. The sulphate rich acidic Priest Spring relieves tired muscles, aches and pains while the sodium rich alkaline waters sourced directly from the Rachel Spring nourish and heal skin.
There is a decadent spa therapy menu with signature geothermal treatments on offer. From Aix (water jet) spa therapies to body wraps and polishes, geothermal mud massages, aromatherapy treatments, and facials, Polynesian Spa is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature’s gift.
Many of the mineral pools are absolute lakeside with geothermal steam softly unfurling across the natural reserve of Sulphur Bay, a mesmerising and relaxing spectacle.
A range of private and public bathing areas are available combined with wellness activities such as yoga, meditation, vibrational sound healing, art therapy and naturopath talks, all easily tailored to suit client groups.
Our on-site cafe caters beautifully prepared breakfasts, lunches and platters and serves freshly made juices and smoothies, and artisan gelato.
No visit to Polynesian Spa is complete without a spot of retail therapy. There is a wide array of high-quality gifts and spa products on offer, many used in our treatments alongside a full range of bathing suits, towels and other giftware.

- Free RV and campervan site across the way in Government Gardens.
- Fantastic Central Location: Polynesian Spa is located on the edge of the Central Business District within walking distance to hotels, Events Centre, Performing Arts Centre, Government Gardens, The Village Green (concerts and events), Restaurants, Rotorua waterfront playground and activities, shopping.
- Free parking for visitors, and ample covered parking for tour buses to drop and collect in front of the spa complex.
