Australian Office

Confidence is the food our industry feeds on.  And confidence is fed by business owners' ability to continue to consistently transact without interruption.

You can't sugar-coat the impact the AU market has experienced.   Sydney is currently in the middle of a 14-week lockdown and Melbourne has spent over 200 days locked down, which is one of the longest lockdowns in the world.

Combine these lockdowns with the complexities of varied interstate border rules and vaccination targets, and you understand why clients are currently fatigued just trying to make sense of the business environment.

However, I assure you that a number of incentive programmes confirmed for NZ (which incorporate dual-destinations) for later this year and early next year, are committed to continuing and the current NZ Alert level and border settings have not influenced them to change tact - yet.

In fact, the past few weeks we've had confirmation on a number of programmes for 2022/23.  One in particular, is a 400 + incentive programme which is travelling over two waves to multiply NZ destinations.  We are seeing a definite increase in the number of "dual-destination" opportunities we have received and clients are looking for buyouts, particularly for smaller incentive programmes.

The corporates continue to work with short-lead times, smaller programmes and staying within their Australian States.  NZ's opportunity in the rotational setting for Associations has on occasion been moved out, as a direct result of the impact 2020/21 and 2022 movements of events into the future.

Despite the current situation there is a definite motivation and optimism for opportunities with NZ.  BEIA successfully executed the MEETINGS Hosted Buyer programme and showcased to the buyers and the Australian market that programmes can be run safely.

The client support package TNZ currently has in market, as well as its work in partnership with Australian representatives, has been vital for some clients.  Collaborating on solutions and opportunities has been key for NZ Inc.

Our focus for the next 12 months is strongly amplifying the TNZ support package message, along with education on destinations and new key infastructure coming online.   We really need to capitalise on this before AU opens its border to beyond just NZ.

The key focus for BEIA will be our MEETINGS 2022 hosted buyer programme.  We're also facilitating new connections and short lead time opportunities for the next 12 months, while highlighting the new destinations and new products that are available.
