Conference Venues & Facilities

Mid Canterbury is well positioned as a conference and meeting destination. The district boasts new state of the art venues, hotels and resorts for the larger conferences, plus a wide range of motels, lodges and high country farms, which cater for the smaller conferences and management retreats. The surrounding mountains and high country lakes provide not only a stress-free environment that sparks inspiration, but also offers a wide range of activities and structured team building options.


Mid Canterbury is host to a wide and varied range of conferencing facilities, meeting venues and accommodation. Optimal group sizes for single room occupancy range from 1 to 180. Larger conferences and meetings are achievable with twin-share along with day conferencing capacity of up to 500 in either the Ashburton Trust venues, Ashburton event Centre or Methven Heritage Centre. Smaller executive meeting facilities showcase some of the most unique & scenic in the country, all with fantastic AV resources, on-site accommodation and incredible dining options.

Outdoor Land Adventures – Ski Mt Hutt - one of the largest ski areas in the South Island with the longest season. Enjoy our extensive mountain biking trails and tracks, High country hiking networks, including heli- skiing or heli-biking, and the Te Araroa national walkway. 

Airborne Activities - Choose from one of the many airborne adventures on offer - From adrenalin free-falling at 200kph sky dive, to a gentle glide Hot Air Balloon flight, or experience one of our fixed wing or helicopter flights including alps and glaciers experiences. 

Water Adventures - In addition to pleasurable boating, kayaking, swimming and fishing, the many rivers and lakes make for fun experiences.  Jet boat ride up the stunning Rakaia Gorge or hold on tight on a grade 5 white water raft ride on the Rangitata River, or try the new must do adventure big rock canyoning, a down hill water fun action, or simply enjoy a round of golf, gardens of national significance, aircraft and historical museums, high country stations and exceptional wining and dining to mention a few!
